  Technical Background

The DFG project, which has been started in 2002 and has recently been prologed, deals with methods which are based on the microstructure properties of hereditary viscoelastic composite materials and allow for statements about their strength and durability.

The numerical modelling results in a series of 3D finite element computations with respect to the space variables, which are coupled with a collocation method for integral equations with respect to time.

Numerical Example

The table below shows that the reinforcing with particles increases the stiffness but decreases the strength of the matrix material.
Prop. of components and composite, [Pa]: Cement matrix Glass inclusions Homogenized properties
Bulk modulus 7.2 E9 78.7 E9 7.23 E9
Shear modulus 3.3 E9 32.2 E9 3.53 E9
Uniaxial strength 50 E6 200 E6 43.91 E6
Hydrostatic strength infinite infinite 95.89 E6
